JOB TITLE:              Co- Principal – High School Lead

POSITION OBJECTIVE(S): The Co - Principal (High School Lead) is responsible for providing effective instructional and operational leadership for the High School Division (grades 9-12) in a shared leadership model with the Middle School Co-Principal (grades 6-8). The High School Co-Principal is responsible for academic excellence, student development, faculty supervision, and daily operations within the high school, while collaborating closely with the Middle School Co-Principal to ensure alignment, continuity, and a cohesive 6-12 education experience.  Major responsibilities include the educational program, professional and classified staff, student development, facility maintenance and management, fiscal management activities, and developing effective community relations.  

This role requires a collaborative, student-centered leader who understands the unique developmental needs of adolescents and values shared leadership, unified systems, and clear communication.

 

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES include the following.  Other duties may be assigned.

• Supervises and leads the development, implementation, and evaluation of high-quality local assessments of the high school curriculum and instructional practices to meet state requirements and track student progress.

• Develops and administers assessment programs and program evaluation for all district programs
• Supports teachers and administrators in interpreting assessment and evaluation information in making programmatic and instructional decisions.
• Collaborate with Middle School Co-Principal and other district personnel in developing and implementing quality educational programs and evaluations.
• Provides technical assistance in research, analysis, and assessment design to District personnel.
• Manages and supports technology-based assessment systems.
• Approves and monitors applications to conduct research.
• Follows all Hazing, Harassment and Bullying (HHB) policies and procedures.

• Supervise, coach, and evaluate high school faculty and instructional staff.
• Promote developmentally responsive instructional strategies and uses data to support academic growth and intervention systems.
• Oversees implementation of MTSS/RTI and support services.
• Fosters a safe, supportive, and inclusive learning environment tailored to high school students.
• Oversees student discipline in alignment with school policies and restorative practices.
• Support advisory programs, social-emotional learning initiatives, and character development.
• Promote student leadership opportunities and extracurricular engagement.
• Support student mental health and wellness initiatives in coordination with counseling staff.
• Ensure equitable practices and culturally responsive leadership.
• Support smooth transition from middle school to high school.
• Oversee daily high school operations, scheduling, staffing, and resource allocation.
• Collaborate on budgeting and resource planning for grades 9-12.
• Ensure compliance with district, state, and federal regulations.
• Manage graduation planning and ceremonies.
• Partner with the Middle School Co-Principal to ensure consistent policies, expectations, and communication across grades 6–12.
• Support advanced placement, dual enrollment, CTE, and other specialized programs,
• Participates in joint leadership meetings, strategic planning, school-wide initiatives, and leadership team activities.
• Work collaboratively with district leadership, families, and community stakeholders.
• Represent the school at district and community events.
• Maintain proactive communication with families regarding academic progress and student development.
• Build partnerships that support student enrichment and well-being.
• Promote the school’s mission and vision within the broader community.

 

SUPERVISION RECEIVED:

Reports to and receives general administrative direction from the Superintendent of Schools.

 

SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES:

• Responsible for training, planning, and directing the activities of school building staff.
• Responsible for yearly evaluations of staff

 

QUALIFICATIONS: To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily, in addition to the following:

• Education and Experience. Master’s degree in educational leadership or related field with minimum 5 years of successful teaching experience. Previous experience as assistant principal or principal including leadership experience in 9-12 leadership in addition a background in college and career readiness initiatives preferred but not required.
• Certifications and Licenses. Holds a Vermont Teaching License with principal endorsement.
• Language Skills. Ability to read, analyze, and interpret common educational and technical journals, periodicals, procedures, and regulations. Ability to respond to common inquiries or complaints from parents, regulatory agencies, or members of the community. Ability to write reports, business correspondence, and procedure manuals that conform to school/district standards or regulations.  Ability to effectively present information to and respond to questions from administrators, parents, peers, board members and the public.
• Mathematical/Reasoning Skills. Ability to interpret and use test results by applying math concepts such as standard error of measurement, bands of confidence, standard scores, and percentiles. Ability to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of concrete variables in situations where only limited standardization exists.  Ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram, or schedule form.
• Computer Skills and Experience. Excellent basic computer skills and understanding of the integration of academic technology strategies required.
• Communication & Interpersonal Skills. Ability to effectively, efficiently and regularly communicate and work cooperatively with a variety of individuals, including students, peers, subordinates, supervisors, parents, and representatives of outside organizations.  Ability to effectively resolve conflicts and handle stress.
