The Townshend School, a preK-grade 5 school part of the WIndham Central Supervisory Union serving students mainly from Townshend, but also some from surrounding communities of Jamaica, Windham and Newfane, is seeking a motivated, creative, organized, and multi-talented superhero to serve as a Schoolwide Paraprofessional. The individual in this full-time position plays an integral role in the daily operations of our school and plays an important part in supporting our amazing students, teachers and families.
Our small school is located in an idyllic setting on the town common, and houses one class per grade level, preK through grade 5.
The Schoolwide Paraprofessional supports all students and teachers across all grades and settings. The Schoolwide Paraprofessional may work one-to-one with a student, within a small group of students, or within the full class setting under the direction and supervision of the classroom teacher, special area teacher or special education teacher. The ideal candidate will possess good communication and collaboration skills, the ability to remain flexible and pivot direction and duties as needed, and the ability to establish a positive rapport with students, staff and families alike. The successful candidate must have the ability to work with students with all ages, backgrounds and abilities in classroom/instructional support settings, and have knowledge of behavioral and conflict resolution strategies.
Essential Functions:
- Assisting teachers in their teaching duties and other general responsibilities such as, providing instructional support, rendering reinforcement activities, etc.
- Overseeing independent/guided practices and follow up drills and activities to ascertain the application of concepts and skills as directed by the teacher
- Helping the teachers in counseling parents on the requirements and development of their children
- Recognizing children requiring extra support and pointing them out to the teachers
- Aiding the teachers in rendering additional attention to special needs students and others requiring assistance and support
- Assisting in the planning, organizing and executing school events and activities to enhance the experience of our students and staff
- Other duties may include:
- implementing teacher-planned instruction,
- communication and social support,
- supervising students,
- clerical/general duties,
- behavioral support,
- supporting individual student needs, and personal care
